Teaching profession at grammar schools and community schools
The four-semester Master of Education programme "Music Education" is aimed at the teaching profession at grammar schools and community schools, preferably with an upper school. It is aimed at applicants who wish to become a music teacher with a second subject (second subject option) or in a double subject (double subject option). It is the basis for the teacher traineeship. The prerequisite for admission to the aptitude test is a Bachelor's degree in music teaching.
Course contents
The programme is oriented towards the current tasks of music teaching in the school environment. The artistic-practical training is deepened in the Master's programme with a special focus on applied piano playing and music-making practice in schools. The artistic elective subject to be taken over all four semesters offers students the opportunity to sharpen their personal artistic profile with an additional instrument of their choice and to expand their music pedagogical expertise. Central components of this Master's programme are several school internships with different focuses, which are carried out in the subject of music during the course of study at schools in the immediate vicinity. The students can try out teaching practice in the fields of secondary level I and II as well as in the AG area and are individually accompanied and intensively prepared for the teaching profession. In the modules Educational Science and Music Education as well as in the final module (Master's thesis), the students deepen their academic competences, which also qualify them for a doctorate.
