Music education at the MHL consciously sees itself as a starting point for both in-school and out-of-school activities. In their reference to professional reality, the two degree programmes Bachelor of Arts and Master of Education "Music Mediation" work on a connection of artistic-practical, scientific and pedagogical concepts, whereby music education has a mediating task. The self-conception of the subject of music education, which does not accept genre barriers but would like to develop a dialogue between old and new music, between popular and so-called classical music, but also between European and non-European music, is based on the concrete testing of musical and music-pedagogical ideas in schools and their reflexive processing, especially in cooperation with educational science.
