Loxford on the coast of England. In the picturesque setting of the sleepy village, Lady Billows watches over customs and morals with a strict hand, while the village youth defies the rules - illegitimate pregnancies are on the increase. To put a stop to the supposed cesspool of sin, an old custom is revived: the election of a May Queen. But there is no well-behaved girl to be found. Without further ado, Albert Herring, the bona fide son of the greengrocer, is appointed May King. Suppressed by his domineering mother, Albert longs for freedom. Disinhibited by a secretly added shot of rum, he embarks on an unforgettable journey into the nightlife! Students of the MHL singing classes together with MHL instrumentalists present Benjamin Britten's comic opera in three acts in a production by Wolfgang Berthold under the musical direction of Pedro Halffter.
