The requirements in the Master's programme "Music Education" (Master of Education double subject Music) presuppose an above-average level of professional, individual and social competences. Applicants should have natural authority and demonstrate the ability to teach music in the school environment.
The qualifying examination consists of the following parts:
- a) Group test
Prepared instruction of a learning group of approx. 5-10 minutes duration of the candidate's own choice (for example, on a musical game, body or object percussion, an instrumental or choral movement, dance or comparable group activities). Interaction skills and flexibility in dealing with a musically pre-trained group are tested.
- b) Interdisciplinary presentation
with artistic, scientific and pedagogical elements (10-15 minutes duration). The artistic presentation can be on the main instrument, the secondary instrument or in song and can integrate contributions from practical school instrumental playing (piano, guitar, percussion). Example of an interdisciplinary presentation: Performance of a short instrumental piece, the music-historical background of which is explained didactically to the examination committee.
- c) Applied piano playing
Performance of two songs from different styles (voice and piano), sight-reading task (three possibilities can be chosen here: Standard, Pop Singing or Song, each with chord symbols).
- d) Colloquium
An interview in which applicants must demonstrate above-average artistic, scientific and pedagogical competences as well as verbalisation and reflection skills with regard to music-didactic questions. Questions on the solutions of the above-mentioned tasks (a, b, c) round off the colloquium.
